    turmeric powder (haldi)(1 teaspoon)turmeric powder (haldi)(1/2 teaspoon)
  12. 12

Transfer the mixture to a bowl and keep aside

  13. 13

Next thing to do, is to make the spicy vegetable tamarind sambar

    tamarind water(2 cups)
  14. 14

For this, in a large pressure cooker, we will add the tamarind water, jaggery, the drumsticks, pearl onions, beans, carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, salt and finally the bisi bele bhaat spice powder

    inch cinnamon stick (dalchini)(1)turmeric powder (haldi)(1 teaspoon)to 8 pearl onions (sambar onions) - peeled(7)green bell pepper (capsicum) - diced(1)carrots (gajjar) - diced(2)green beans (french beans) - diced(1/2 cup)drumstick - cut into inch(1 pieces)tomatoes - roughly chopped(2)tamarind water(2 cups)teaspoons jaggery(2)salt - to tasteturmeric powder (haldi)(1/2 teaspoon)salt - to taste
  15. 15

    Stir all the ingredients well

  16. 16

Cover the pressure cooker, place the weight and allow the vegetables to cook until you hear at least 2 whistles and turn off the heat

  17. 17

Since the vegetables cook very quickly, we will release the pressure by running cold water over the pressure cooker

    tamarind water(2 cups)
  18. 18

This process helps to bring the pressure down immediately

  19. 19

Open the pressure cooker and smell the aroma from the vegetable curry

    to 10 curry leaves(8)
  20. 20

You can transfer this to another bowl to reuse the pressure cooker for the next process

  21. 21

But since I have another pressure cooker, I will leave it aside as it is

  22. 22

Now lets get the main ingredients to make the Bisi Bele Bath and learn how to bring them all togetherTo the pressure cooked at in the washed rice, the washed lentils, the turmeric powder, salt and 5 cups of water

    turmeric powder (haldi)(1 teaspoon)tamarind water(2 cups)salt - to tasterice(1 cup)turmeric powder (haldi)(1/2 teaspoon)salt - to taste
  23. 23

Cover the cooker and place the weight on the pressure cooker

  24. 24

Turn the heat to high and allow the rice to cook until you hear two whistles

    rice(1 cup)
  25. 25

After you hear the whistles, turn the heat to low and simmer for five minutes

  26. 26

After 5 minutes have passed, turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally

  27. 27

Rice cooks in this resting period, hence wait for the pressure to release completely

    rice(1 cup)
  28. 28

While we are waiting for the pressure to release, Lets proceed to make the seasoning

  29. 29

For seasoning the Bisi Bele Bath, heat a small pan on medium heat

coriander (dhania) leaves - a small bunch
  30. 30

    methi seeds (fenugreek seeds)(1 teaspoon)poppy seeds(1 tablespoon)tablespoons coriander (dhania) seeds(2)mustard seeds(1 teaspoon)cumin seeds (jeera)(1/2 teaspoon)
  32. 32

    Allow it to crackle

  33. 33

Then add in the red chilli, curry leaves and roast them until the red chillies are browned lightly

    to 4 dry red chillies(3)or 2 dry red chilli(1)to 10 curry leaves(8)coriander (dhania) leaves - a small bunch
  34. 34

Stir to roast the ingredients well

  35. 35

    Once roasted keep this aside

  36. 36

Now we will get back to the rice and dal pressure cooker

    rice(1 cup)
  37. 37

Once the pressure is released , open the pressure cooker

  38. 38

Add in the spicy vegetable tamarind curry

    tamarind water(2 cups)to 10 curry leaves(8)
  39. 39
