
Cherupair Thoran Recipe - Kerala Steel Green Gram Vegetable

To begin making the Cherupayar Thoran Recipe, wash the green gram and pressure cook it for 3 whistles by adding enough water and salt
green moong dal (whole)(1/2 cup)green chilli(3)salt - to taste - 2
Crush garlic and green chilli in a mortar pestle
green moong dal (whole)(1/2 cup)green chilli(3)cloves garlic(3)dry red chilli(1) - 3
Mix it with the grated coconut
fresh coconut - grated(1/4 cup)teaspoons coconut oil(2) - 4
Keep it aside

Heat a heavy bottomed pan with coconut oil
fresh coconut - grated(1/4 cup)teaspoons coconut oil(2) - 6
Once he oil is hot, add mustard seeds and urad dal
cumin seeds (jeera)(1/4 teaspoon)mustard seeds(1/2 teaspoon)white urad dal (split)(1 teaspoon) - 7
Once they splutter add cumin seeds, dry red chilli and curry leaves
green chilli(3)dry red chilli(1)cumin seeds (jeera)(1/4 teaspoon)mustard seeds(1/2 teaspoon)curry leaves - fewsprig coriander (dhania) leaves - chopped for garnish(4) - 8
Give a quick fry

Add onion, turmeric and salt in the pan
onion - finely chopped(1)turmeric powder (haldi)(1/4 teaspoon)salt - to taste - 10
Saute the mixture till the onion becomes soft and translucent

Add the coconut mixture and sauté it well till raw smell goes

Add the cooked green gram and mix it well

Keep on the flame on low for 2-3 minutes
