Cream butter or margarine, sugar and egg in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy.

Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in small mixing bowl.
unsifted all-purpose flour(1 1/2 c)unsweetened cocoa(1/2 c)baking soda(1 tsp)salt(1/4 tsp) - 3
Add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.

Beat on low speed just until blended; stir in nuts and raisins.
raisins optional(3/4 c) - 5
Pour into greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2-inch loaf pan.

Bake at 350° for 55 to 60 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean.

Remove from pan.

Cool completely on wire rack.
