Thoroughly mix shortening, egg, sugar, sour cream and vanilla.
shortening(1 c)egg(1)sugar(1 c)sour cream(1 c)vanilla(2 tsp) - 2
Then add flour, salt, soda and nutmeg that have been sifted together.
flour(3 c)salt(1 tsp)soda(1 tsp)nutmeg if desired(1/2 tsp) - 3
Let dough chill 1 hour in refrigerator.

When chilled roll out and cut out with your favorite cutters.

Put on aluminum foil lined cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until lightly brown around edges.

Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
